NCAER’s new office tower named after John Matthai, the founding President of India’s largest and oldest independent economic policy institute, was formally inaugurated by Nandan Nilekani, the current Governing Body President on August 27, 2019.
Present that afternoon at this milestone event was NCAER’s Director General, Dr Shekhar Shah, other Governing Board members and NCAER staff. Addressing the gathering, Dr Shah who steered the implementation of this major project, gratefully acknowledged the generous contribution of Nilekani Philanthropies and added that it was Mr Nilekani’s suggestion the building be named after Mr Matthai. Paying tribute to and recounting Mr Matthai’s contributions as a great economist, educationist and prominent member of the Government of India, Mr Nilekani said it was only appropriate that now when NCAER is looking to significantly expand and grow its influence as a think tank, that the institute honours the memory of its Founding President with this dedication. |
